Dierks Bentley Says "5-1-5-0" Began as a Joke

Dierks Bentley says his latest hit single, "5-1-5-0," actually began as a joke. According to Dierks, his co-writer, Jim Beavers pushed him to turn the joke into a hit song…

Dierks Bentley: "At least in California it was like a police code for an insane person. I was telling Jim that and he laughed. He had kind of written this thing, '5-1-5-0, somebody call the po-po' and every time I'd see him at the gym or riding around somewhere, he'd say, 'Man, I'm telling you, that's a hit' and I'd always laugh. But it got stuck in my head, so one day we were writing songs and we couldn't go anywhere and I said, 'Alright, let's pull this thing out and let's try to write this thing.' So we did and it just kind of took off and I've been playing it in the live show ever since."

Dierks said the crowd response to his live performance of the song was so great, he had no choice but to put it on his album.
