Rascal Flatts Say "Banjo" was Kind of an Accident

Rascal Flatts say their hit single “Banjo” was kind of an accident. Gary LeVox said it all went down at a songwriting session, when he overheard a couple of his co-writers playing a new song demo in another room…

Gary LeVox: "Neil and Wendell were actually at my ranch, the three of us were writing 'Changed,' and Wendell just happened to get the rough copy of 'Banjo' and he was playing it for Neil to go, 'Oh, here's the song they demoed for us.' Not for me, he was playing it for Neil, and I wasn't even in the same room. And I heard it and I went in there, I was like, 'What is that?' And he was like, 'Just some song.'"

Jay DeMarcus: "That was a set-up."

Gary LeVox: "I know it."

Jay DeMarcus: "OK, you got us."

So yes, it seems that "accident" was actually a ploy to get the Flatts to record the song, and it’s a good thing they did. Because right now, “Banjo” is at the number 2 spot on the charts!
