Alan Jackson "Music for Mineral"
Alan Jackson will sing a free show for a town that was devastated by a recent earthquake. Mineral, Virginia, a town with only 490 residents, got little support after an earthquake damaged their school and other buildings in their community. Alan says the town members heard about his contest on the radio and knew it was their opportunity to get the help they desperately needed…
Alan Jackson: "We had this contest going, I guess, at radio where every town could vote and whoever got the most votes I'd come do a free show for. And then when this town and the earthquake that damaged the school and some other buildings there in the town and didn't get much attention for it, somebody in that town, I believe a fan, got on the Internet and rallied all this together and got everybody across the country to vote for this little town to win that contest."
The benefit concert is on May 20th: and it's open to the public to help raise as much money as possible for the town. A benefit golf tournament is also scheduled for May 19th.
