Lady Antebellum is called on to Save the Chickens at KFC!

Lady Antebellum has received an "extra crispy" request.

Ok, let me explain...Hillary, Charles and Dave are scheduled to perform at the upcoming Association of Kentucky Fried Chicken Franchisees gathering this week…and a rock-n-roller is asking them to make a political statement on behalf of the chickens.

Chrissie Hynde, the famous front-woman for the rock band The Pretenders, reached out to Lady A in a "personal" letter to the trio.  But she sent it through PETA, the animal rights organization, who has posted portions of that letter on their website.  In the letter, Chrissie pleaded with the trio to save the chickens.  Chrissie stated, "KFC has refused…to eliminate its most cruel and archaic slaughter practices, so my friends at PETA and I are hoping that you will use your unique position to appeal to the company."  She described some graphic details to help illustrate her point, and added, quote, "Would you consider asking KFC executives to make a few changes to end the worst abuses of chickens?"

At this time, there’s been no response or official statement from Lady A.  The Grammy Award winning trio is scheduled to perform at the KFC event in San Diego on Thursday.

Brad Paisley's WILD Party in Nashville

Brad Paisley threw a WILD party in Nashville this week. Did you hear about this??

Well...his oldest son Huck celebrated his fourth birthday on Tuesday at the Nashville Zoo! : ) It’s no surprise Huck chose the zoo for his party…his mom and dad love the zoo too. Brad and Kimberly are big supporters of the Nashville Zoo at Grassmere, and often show their support in person.  In October of last year, Brad launched the new Insect Exhibit there; He released the first butterfly into the Butterfly garden.  And both Brad and Kimberly were there in September for the Sunset Safari VIP event…they even brought along their pals Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman!!!
Here's a pic of Kimberly from that evening's festivities:

Brad said Huck's party went off without a hitch...the zoo brought animals over for the kids to pet and had special games for them to play. I'm glad Brad and Kimberly are bringing attention to our zoo...it's a wonderful part of Music City...and I'm embarrassed to say that I often forget it's there (or at least I take it for granted)...and I never thought about it for a kid's birthday party. There are probably a lot of moms in town who are booking their kid's party at the zoo right now because of Brad.

Way to go Brad and Kimberly!  Oh! And HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HUCK!!!

Wedding Bells for Sugarland??!!

Sugarland kept a big secret from their fans.  Word is, there was a secret Sugarland wedding in Franklin, Tennessee on Saturday…and Sugarland fans have been a-buzz about who got hitched!

Well, I’ve done some digging….and details have slowly emerged. I have not heard where the wedding actually took place, but I do know that the wedding reception took place at Lillie Belle’s in Franklin (Lillie Bell's is a Wedding and Event Venue in historic downtown Franklin).  I've been told it was absolutely beautiful! There was a metallic silver curtain around the perimeter of the room...and the tables were decorated with black and white and pink feathers.  They served gorgeous cupcakes. The decor was artistic and contemporary.

But who said “I do”??  Is Jennifer Nettles married???

Well….apparently, their love blossomed, right under our noses…without many people knowing…after years of living the bachelor and bachelorette lifestyle…it seems that Jennifer and Kristian were a part of a great love story in the making!...

Their bass player, Annie Clements married their guitar player, Thad Beaty. And it’s not yet confirmed, but I heard that both Jennifer and Kristian were there in the support of their big day on Saturday!

Congratulations Annie and Thad!!

Best Wishes,

Ashley

FREE Brad Paisley Concert!!!

What would you do to see a FREE Brad Paisley concert??  Would you stand in line for hours....in the RAIN??  Well, that's exactly what folks did on Monday night outside of the venue, Nashville Center Stage.

Brad Paisley held a secret concert on Monday night; it was part of the Walmart Soundcheck series. But only Brad’s most loyal followers knew about the show, finding out about it via text.  The ones who were quick on the draw were able to RSVP in time. They only allowed for a small number of RSVP's. But, securing the RSVP only allowed you to stand in line outside the venue. I was told that even an RSVP didn’t guarantee you’d get inside. So an even smaller number of folks would be able to see the show.  Finally, after standing for 20 minutes in the pouring rain, a very small group of folks were allowed inside!! The lucky ones were the ones with umbrellas!!

I spoke to one of the lucky ones who got inside and here's what happened at the show:

It was a full-blown Brad Paisley concert!!  He had his full band and stage lighting...the works!  He sang hit after hit…and the smaller venue made the concert more intimate.  Brad tested out a new song from his upcoming album...a funny song called “Love Starts with a Toothbrush."  The crowd seemed to LOVE it! The song is definitely in line with Brad's humor. And throughout the show, Brad was cracking jokes about Walmart, too. He played the guitar with a beer bottle a couple of times…and he ended with the song, “Alcohol." Everyone in the room sang it with him.

I'm told that Brad was in rare form on Monday night.  At one point, a guy in the audience yelled, “I love you Brad!  Brad response made everyone laugh,  "umm...I love you too? ..you should probably just say that you like me." Then a girl screamed out, "I LOVE YOU BRAD!" Brad replied, "See, that's more like it. Love you too, miss!"

Hope you enjoy these few pics from the show!

Billy Ray Cyrus Speaks Out About Miley...and Miley's Mad at Dad!!!

Billy Ray Cyrus made a private, family issue public in the latest GQ magazine, when he told GQ that he was afraid for his daughter Miley and blamed the Disney show, Hannah Montana, for all of Miley’s outrageous behavior and the family’s troubles.  He specifically said, "Hannah Montana destroyed my family."  When asked if he could do it all over again, would he NOT do Hannah Montana, Billy Ray said, "I hate to say it, but yes, I do. Yeah. I'd take it back in a second. For my family to be here and just be everybody okay, safe and sound and happy and normal, would have been fantastic. Heck, yeah. I'd erase it all in a second if I could."

Well now, in the aftermath of that article, word is, Miley is MAD at her Dad.  According to a gossip site (Popeater.com), Miley can’t believe her Dad would betray her that way...and that Billy Ray never said a word about Hannah Montana all those years that the show made millions of dollars for the family.  Also according to the site, a close friend of Miley’s said, “To say Miley is angry is an understatement…She's furious that her own flesh and blood would make a private matter so public. Who does he think he is, Michael Lohan?"  Which is, of course, is Lindsey Lohan’s father, who spoke out publicly against his daughter’s bad behavior.  Also another family drama, made public.

Well now, Mr. Lohan has come to Billy Ray’s defense in a public statement saying “I know what you are going through, I feel your pain and frustration, and I also admire your strength, dedication and love, for your family in the name of God."

So far, there’s no official statement from Billy Ray or Miley in response to Lohan's statement.  And Miley has not released an official statement in response to her dad's article in GQ...at least not yet.

Lady Antebellum and Dierks Bentley Give Back to Nashville's Kids

Lady Antebellum performed with Dierks Bentley and a slew of other artists Friday night for the Dustin J Wells 4th annual Gift of Music concert at the Wildhorse Saloon…all proceeds from the concert went to the WO Smith Music School, which gives underprivileged kids free musical instruments and music lessons…and some of the kids from the school performed for us…it was a full-band production of “dancing in the street”, complete with a horn section. They were FANTASTIC!!

The show began with a video tribute to Dustin Jack Wells, the 21 year old son of Dr. Dennis Wells, who was tragically killed in a car accident in 2005.  Dr. Wells started the Dustin J. Wells Foundation to keep Dustin's love of music alive by supporting the musical dreams of other young people.  I wasn't lucky enough to have known Dustin personally, but the video gave me insight into who this striking young man was...a fun, charismatic, lover of all-things-music...who gave out big, bear hugs to everyone.  And in his honor, Dr. Wells asked us to give a Dustin Bear Hug to the person to our right and to our left.  It was a special moment that brought tears to my eyes and a lump in my throat.

It was a night of GREAT music. Dierks Bentley did an acoustic set of bluegrass music and hits from his album.  He apologized for wearing a baseball cap onstage…he said he washed his hair, which was a bad idea...because it made his curly locks look like a big ‘fro.  His playing and singing was spot-on and fun to watch.

The highlight of the night was definitely Lady A. I've said this before, but I am so impressed by their giving back to their community in the midst of their “Grammy High”.  Hillary kept saying over and over, “It’s so good to be HOME!” Charles Kelly told the audience who bought very expensive tix (some spent $1,000 a pop, ”Y’all are doing a good thing.”

And let me just tell you…Lady A was AMAZING!  They had their full band production…they sounded like just like their records. They sang all their hits and even tested out a new song on us. Hillary, Charles and Dave sat on 3 bar stools and performed it with just a guitar...it was a  beautiful song with 3 part harmony, called, “Dancing Away with my Heart", from their upcoming album.

Charles said this was just their 2nd show since Christmas. They’ve been off the road for 3 months working on their new album. Lady A did a couple of cover songs…John Mellencamp’s “R.O.C.K. in the USA”...and they ended with another cover , “That’s what I like about you”, which was their encore.  They were INCREDIBLE!

As they were taking their bows, Hillary told the crowd, “Thank you for changing our lives!!”  Thank YOU, Lady A...for helping to change the lives of children in Nashville who dream about having a career in music, but until now, didn't have the means to do so.

Also, many thanks to the other artists who participated: Joey & Rory (YOU ROCK!), Brett Eldredge, Heidi Newfield and the Locash Cowboys...ALL DID A FANTASTIC JOB!!!

And Thank you, Dr. Wells, for sharing your son's passion with us...and for letting us into your life in order to support a cause that was so important to your son.

Lady Antebellum's Gift of Music

It's a been a big week for Lady Antebellum.  They swept the Grammy's on Sunday night, taking home FIVE trophies, including two of the night's biggest...Record AND Song of the Year.  I'm sure they're still on a "Grammy High"....yet tonight, Lady A is giving back to their community.  They will perform in Nashville tonight,  teaming up with Dierks Bentley and a slew of other artists for the 4th annual Gift of Music concert at the Wildhorse Saloon downtown.  Huge Country stars have participated in the Gift of Music concert in the past, like Ronnie Dunn, Dolly Parton...and this is the second time Lady A has offered up their talents.

The concert is presented by the Dustin J Wells Foundation…and all the proceeds go to the W.O. Smith Music School that gives underprivileged kids musical instruments and lessons for free.

The Dustin J Wells foundation is very special to me.  It was started by Dustin’s dad, Dr. Dennis Wells (who is, by the way, the dentist of the stars).  He started the foundation after Dustin was tragically killed in a car accident 5 years ago.  Dustin was just 21 years old.

It was really important to Dr. Wells and his family that Dustin’s name and his love of music lives on. This way, they get to help give back to the community and to other kids who share in Dustin’s passion, but who don’t have the means to pursue their dreams.

It is my understanding that Hillary Scott of Lady A knew Dustin, back when they were both students at Belmont School of Music.  And their families knew one another as well.  I am so glad to know that, in the midst of their rise to an all-new level of fame in this business, Hillary, Charles and Dave are giving the Gift of Music! THANK YOU, LADY A!!!

Tonight’s concert has raised a lot of money for the music school…but there are still ways to get involved.  Please visit: dustinsgiftofmusic.com to find out how.

If you weren't able to get a ticket to the show (it sold out FAST), don't worry...I'll be there tonight and will give you a full report on all the happenings on Monday.

ACM Nominees Want YOU!!

There's only one week left to vote for the 2011 ACM Top New Solo Vocalist and Top New Vocal Duo or Group categories…and the nominees are pulling out all the stops to gain votes from their fans!  And they're using funny videos to do it.  It's almost turned into a video competition to see who can make the funniest one.  I have a few favorites that I'd like to share with you...

Easton Corbin's video uses a string of infamous TV commercials with new voice over dubs, in order to get the word out to vote for him.  Check it out:

The Band Perry made a video with their Grandma, Betty Lou.  I talked to Kimberly Perry about it a few weeks ago at The Band Perry's Number One party for "If I Die Young".  Kimberly said they try to use Betty Lou when they can, because their fans LOVE her!  Their ACM vote-requesting video is called, "Betty Lou is Back!" It’s a total crack-up!  In the video, Betty Lou wears dark sunglasses as she flips through cue cards telling fans to vote for her grand kids.  But they use slang phrases like, "For Reals"...and it's funny to see Betty Lou's reactions to the cards.  Here's "Betty Lou is Back!":

And The JaneDear Girls do a knock off of SNL's "On a Boat" skit.  It's pretty funny, too:

You have a week from TODAY to choose your favorite. Go to ACMCountry.com to cast your vote!

Who is Lady Antebellum?

After Lady Antebellum took home five Grammies this week, folks who were previously unfamiliar with the group, were a little caught off-guard by them…and a lot of non-Country music listeners are now asking the question, “Just Who is this Lady Antebellum?” Well, Someone has even created a blog site called, “Who is Lady Antebellum…we don’t have answers, only more questions.”  The site is encouraging folks to post their questions regarding the award winning Lady A.  One person posted, "Who is Lady Antebellum? Lady Gaga's cousin or something?" Another says, "so…Lady Antebellum is more than one person?”

I admit that I laughed at some of the comments.  And I guess it’s fair to say that the site was created to poke-fun at the band…but what it’s actually doing is bringing more attention and awareness to Lady A and their music…and Lady Antebellum, without having to saying a word…is screaming out loud “if you didn’t know who Lady A was before…You do now!!”

I guess Country listeners, like me, can take for granted that Lady Antebellum is a household name.  Well, if folks were in the dark about them before Sunday night…guess what…the spotlight is shining brightly on Lady A now.  And this is just the beginning.

Way to go, Lady A!

Miranda Lambert's Forgotten Fiance

Someone very important seemed to have slipped from Miranda Lambert’s mind during Sunday’s Grammy Awards.  During her acceptance speech, Miranda didn’t thank her fiance', Blake Shelton!

It’s being reported that Miranda seemed mortified when she realized it after the moment was over…and she explained it all in the press room backstage…"I forgot!” she said.
Well, I put two and two together...and here’s what I think happened...

Ok, so the Grammy’s took place the day before Valentine’s Day, and Blake had just admitted a few days earlier, that he wasn’t gonna go all out for Miranda.  Apparently, he thought a quick trip down the candy aisle while he was out shopping for groceries would cut it!  Here’s what Blake said: "I got one of those heart shaped boxes of Reeses Peanut Butter Cups for Valentine’s Day. I’m really hoping that when V-day comes around instead of having to go out on some date or buy her some jewelry, I’ll be like, “hey, remember I got you those Reeses Cups.”

I’m thinking maybe…Miranda's Grammy goof might have been her subconscious reacting to a lazy Valentine!!!  : )

Seriously...I thought Blake's intro for Miranda on the Grammy's was precious!  And Miranda, I'm sure, was overwhelmed...anybody would be!!  AND...Blake admits he's not the most romantic guy in the world.  He even gave out his own version of Valentine’s ecards yesterday on facebook and twitter…one of which was “On this special day…you can Kiss my Country (you know what)”!

Congrats Miranda....AND Blake!!  You guys are a lot of fun!

Keith Urban's Ultimate Love Song

Keith Urban will debut his new single, "Without You," on Good Morning America this week…and it’s no accident that he chose to debut this song on Valentine’s Day Week…it tells a beautiful love story.  And Keith says, even though it was written by another Nashville songwriter, the song expresses exactly, to a "T", how he feels about his wife, Nicole Kidman, and his two little girls.  Keith said, "It was amazing, literally it was just word for word. Not only my life story, but exactly how I felt. I couldn't believe how beautiful the song was and how poignant. Literally, like he'd written it for me. It's extraordinary."

Keith’s right…the song really does chronicle Keith and Nicole’s relationship…especially when he sings about having a little girl.  Keith and Nicole are definitely a couple in love…Happy Valentine’s Day!

Carrie Underwood - Under Attack

After yesterday’s news that Carrie Underwood’s husband, Mike Fisher was traded from his career team, the Ottawa Senators, to the Nashville Predators…hockey fans in Ottawa are blaming Carrie…some are calling her everything from manipulative to “Hockey’s Yoko Ono”. A local radio station has even gone so far as pulling Carrie’s music from their station's playlist.
KISS FM stated, “We know Mike Fisher is not to blame for this trade but feel he was lured away by a country-music superstar. Sure, she’s pretty. Yes, she can sing. But can she play hockey? Can she put one on the top shelf with a slap shot? No!”  And according to the Ottawa Sun, KISS FM’s program director said the ban of Carrie Underwood’s music is in effect "forever"….
Well…Mike Fisher came to Carrie's defense.  He responded to the attack on Carrie in a statement posted on his team website.  Mike said this about his new wife: “She was actually really sad when she heard the news. If she had to choose she would have wanted me to stay in Ottawa. She knew I had played my whole career here.”
Well, NOW…The Ottawa Sun newspaper has posted another article, which also defends Carrie.  The new article says, "the vast majority of the city is sad at the loss of not only Fisher, but of Carrie as well."  It includes statements from another Ottawa Country Radio Station.  The Morning Show host, who is a great friend of Mike Fisher’s,  says in the article, “Carrie brought a lot to the city. She was one of us. She and Mike did a lot of fundraising and charity work here. They’ll be great together in Nashville, but right now, it’s a big loss for Ottawa.”
That article also says that Carrie Underwood wrote an email to the Ottawa Sun, saying “We will both truly miss Ottawa.”

Word is, Mike and Carrie were in the process of building a huge home in Ottawa, so it seems their intentions were to have Mike stay on the Senators team.  But this move will allow the newlyweds to spend more time together.  And for what it's worth, I'm happy for them...and I'm happy to have them both here in Nashville.

Steel Magnolia: On Twitter, Brad Paisley and Garth Brooks

Steel Magnolia, the co-ed country duo, stopped in Nashville for a quick gig at the Wildhorse and I caught up with the happy couple.  I had a great time hanging out with Josh and Meghan…Josh is like a laid back rock and roller and Megan’s personality is as big and busy as her b-hive hair do.  And as you can imagine, they were still excited about their ACM nominations…I asked them how they found out that they were nominated, and according to Megan, a little birdie told them

Steel Magnolia has steadily seen successes in the biz…but Josh and Meghan don’t feel like they’ve quote “made it yet." The said they gained a new perspective on their career at a concert recently…but they weren't on stage…they were in the audience…

Check out highlights of my interview with Steel Magnolia in the video below:

Miranda Lambert's Platinum Party

Miranda Lambert threw a huge Platinum Party on Friday night at Nashville’s upscale Icon building.  It was a "Platinum Party" because she was celebrating the fact that each of her three albums has sold more than a million copies. Everybody wore platinum for the occasion…Miranda was decked out in a flashy strapless little number....but she kept the party Miranda-fied or Miranda-ish (those are my own made up words)...but Miranda kept the party down-to-earth by serving corn dogs, macaroni and cheese balls, and a pyramid of cupcakes topped off by a platinum guitar.

It was a big deal to Miranda.  She said that her album, Revolution, actually caused a revolution in her own world.  She says now she’s on magazine covers, and she's doing lots of photo shoots and interviews…

...and she said, excited and kind of surprised, “I'm famous now.”  : )

I Have A Duet in the Can with Ronnie Dunn

I was thinking about the first time I met Ronnie Dunn...we were both recording at Reba McEntire's brand new studios at Starstruck, Nashville...it was 15 years ago.
The studios were (and still are) amazing.  At the time, I was told that the only people to have sung in the studio, prior to me, were Reba and Jon Bon Jovi!!! The Starstruck building was dubbed "The Taj Mahal of Music Row"...the entire place was made of marble...state of the art in every way...there was even a helicopter landing pad on top of the building (I heard that Music Row was in an uproar over that...folks said that the noise would disrupt making music. To this day, I've never seen a helicopter land on that building).  The place was incredible and for a girl who worked at the Pickens County YMCA in SC...I was blown away!

I worked a full day in that studio, while my parents hung out in the leather lounge area...I think even they felt like stars that day.

But my most unforgettable moment that day....was actually a trip to the restroom.  The women's and men's restrooms were sort of connected by a hallway...you stepped into the hallway...then you'd go to the left for men's, right for women's.  There were no doors.  The restrooms were floor to ceiling marble...absolutely beautiful...and pretty echo-ey, but the acoustics were pretty good.  As I was washing my hands, I found myself singing, kind of subconsciously, a harmony part to a melody that a man was singing in the men's room.  I didn't think twice about it...nor did I wonder who it was.  I just assumed it was someone who worked there...

We walked out of the restroom at the same time...and when we faced each other in the hallway that connected the two restrooms, I stopped in my tracks.  It was Ronnie Dunn!!!  I had been singing a duet with Ronnie Dunn in the can!!  (Thank you Tim Ross for giving me that line!)

Kenny Chesney Named Tennessean of the Year!!!

Kenny Chesney has been named Tennessean of the Year by the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame. Kenny's being honored for his documentary on high school football, called Boys of Fall, and his upcoming documentary called The Color Orange: The Condredge Holloway Story…it’s a film about the Southeastern Conference's first African-American starting quarterback.  ESPN will air that documentary later on this month.  Mr. Chesney will be honored at a banquet in Nashville on February 11th, which I hope to attend...

If you’re thinking that’s a weird honor to bestow on a Country star...to be in the Sports Hall of Fame...you're not alone.  I thought the same thing at first.  But,  Kenny isn't the only Country Star to be honored...Vince Gill won in 1995.  Vince helped create the annual Vince gill Pro-Celebrity invitational golf Tournament ("The Vinny")...it supports jr. golf programs throughout Tennessee.  And Hank Williams Jr. was chosen in 2007...after all, he’s been the voice of Monday night football for years and years...

So Congrats Kenny…hope to see you next week!

Ronnie Dunn's Barn "Brawl"

Ronnie Dunn has moved on from Brooks and Dunn and is moving forward with his solo career…he's released his first solo single called “Bleed Red”.  (You can hear it on his official website ronniedunn.com).  And this week, Ronnie said he’s been getting ready for his first solo tour.
Right after he made the ACM nominee announcements this week, he made an announcement of his own.  Ronnie said he's already put a band together and they’ve been rehearsing close to home…a little too close for his neighbors… they’re not happy with Ronnie right now. Ronnie’s said he cut most of his album right there in his backyard building that they call "The Barn"...and apparently, his band has been rehearsing like crazy this week, too....and that’s made waves in the "hood".  Ronnie even said, "Neighbors hate us!
OK, so his neighbors might be a little annoyed…but I could certainly appreciate hearing a private Ronnie Dunn concert in my backyard.  It makes me wanna drive out there and LISTEN!!!

Luke Bryan helped "Keep the Music Playing"

Luke Bryan hosted and performed at the CMA's "Keep The Music Playing" show last night at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center.  Now, “Keep the Music Playing” is a program that raises money to give musical instruments and build music labs for Metro Public schools.
Kids from all over town got all dressed up to perform in the beautiful music hall…it was fun to watch their excitement!  There were some amazingly talented kids there…elementary kids performed in full orchestras…there were children’s choirs…I was blown away by their performances!
But the highlight of the night was when Luke performed with a Nashville School of the Arts guitar student named Sam Hunter.  Sam played guitar as Luke sang, “Do I”.  I spoke to Luke before the show, and we talked about their rehearsal.
Thanks to Jennifer, my "Intern on the Row", my conversation with Luke is on video...as well as a little bit of Luke's performance with Sam. I have to say...Sam did a fantastic job…I totally forgot he was a high school kid…Luke did a great job too…have a listen and let me know what you think...

What an incredible opportunity for a high school music student!  That’s really what the program is about…giving every child in this city every opportunity to pursue their dreams through music, regardless of their background. There was one kid there who was playing a $4,000 tuba!
And by the way, Luke was right…Sam was calm, cool and collected.  Luke was definitely the nervous one! : )

Keith Anderson and the "Y"

Last night, Keith Anderson rounded up some of his pals for his 4th annual concert benefiting the Bellevue YMCA…held at Chaffins Barn Dinner Theatre.  I was there for all the fun.  It really was a party, and I gotta tell you…a lot of GREAT music.

Last night, Leroy Parnell, George Ducas…Halfway to Hazzard…and even Nan Kelly performed (I didn’t even know she sang).  You never know who’s gonna show up and sing…in previous years, he’s had some pretty big players show up…Jamie Johnson, Randy Houser…and I was told Carrie Underwood came out a couple of years ago…just to sit in the audience and enjoy the show.

But what touched me most about the night was the real sense of community.  That entire area was hit hard by the flood last year…and the YMCA has been a real blessing to the community, so it was great to see folks come together for a great cause

And it was a party….did I mention that?? : )

That’s my neighborhood and my "Y", so I’m grateful to Keith and Chaffin’s Barn for putting that together.  Word is, an anonymous donor wrote a check for $1 million dollars.

Here's Keith with me and my "Intern on the Row", Jennifer....
