Blake Shelton will say just about anything in an interview…so when I caught up with Blake this time, I wanted to get to the bottom of something…literally…the timing of Blake’s duet “Don’t Drink the Water” with Brad Paisley just wasn’t adding up to me. So I talked to Blake about it....
Ashley Mann: When did you record your “Don’t Drink the Water” duet with Brad? Was it BEFORE your honeymoon?
Blake Shelton: “Yeah, it was actually way before…and it started out as…I was just excited that he wanted me to sing with him and then he told me, “Well you know, we’re doin’ that tour together and I figured it’d give us somethin’ to do. And I was like, “Well, thanks a lot Brad!” And like “Well…you know, I mean I wanted you to sing on it..I uh…” And now it turns out we end up going down to Mexico on our honeymoon.”
Ashley Mann: I saw an interview…you were telling, like, details about your honeymoon…
Blake Shelton: Yep
Ashley Mann: and you said you drank a lot,
Blake Shelton: Right…
Ashley Mann: and you did this…including “I drank the water and got diarrhea.
Blake Shelton: Well here’s what I’ve learned and not to say that that may or may not be true…there is nothing that will end an interview quicker than talking to the interviewer about your explosive diarrhea. And so I began to use that to my advantage…to where people were like, “Ok, well I think we have enough..Thank you for your time..” and then, now I’m learning the hard way that they actually do use that stuff and it ends up on television. And not that I have any pride, but Miranda’s gotten to the point where she’s like, “I wish you’d quit tellin’ people that you have diarrhea..that is GROSS! People don’t like that!”…but here we are talkin’ about it, you know?
Ashley Mann: BECAUSE…the next time I turn around, you’re singing the song, “Don’t Drink the Water” in Mexico. So I thought that…maybe…was it your way of trying to promote that song?....
Blake Shelton: THAT’S what it is!! (laughing) THANK YOU! That’s what it is…I’m just tryin’ to sell Brad Paisley some records. The guy needs some help. His career is in the dumps…it’s gotta be near over.
Well, I still can’t figure it out…is Blake a brilliant marketer…or is he just gross? Miranda, you have got your work cut out for you with this one. : )
